The mechanism of transfer of solute from one phase to the second is one of molecular and eddy diffusion and the concepts of phase equilibrium, interfacial area, and surface renewal are all similar in principle to those met in distillation and absorption, even though, in liquid-liquid extraction, dispersion is effected by mechanical means including pumping and agitation, except in standard packed columns.

Lipase, Animal Obtained from the edible forestomach tissue of calves, kids, or lambs and from animal pancreatic tissue. Produced as purified edible tissue preparations or as aqueous extracts dispersible in water, but insoluble in alcohol. Major active principle lipase. Typical applications used in the manufacture of cheese and in the modification of lipids. 

Treatment of extracted disperse dyes by photo-sensitization.

Dispersed contact, where one or both liquids are mechanically dispersed to provide increased area for extraction. Dispersion may be brought about by causing one of the liquids to flow through nozzles, orifices, screens, packing, etc., or by agitation. The liquids may be dispersed once or many times after intermediate coalescence.
