Experiment 58 Tensile Testing of Polymers Using a Homemade Tester  

Purpose To measure the breaking strength of various household polymer samples using a homemade tensile tester. 

Use nylon or other strong fiber rope that will not break before the sample. 

The clamping devices can be made from a 1/8-in. metal strip, chair gliders, and wing nuts. 

The samples can be from a variety of plastic materials, e.g., margarine tubs, plastic bags, etc.
