Exhaled nitric oxide measurements

Studies measuring exhaled nitric oxide (NO) at several exhalation flow rates have revealed that the alveolar NO concentration correlates negatively with Dlco. vital capacity, and alveolar volume, suggesting that it may be a marker of disease severity (53). 

Bayen found that 2 oz. of mercury dissolving in nitric acid produced 26-30 oz. measures of water of elastic fluid (nitric oxide).
