A maximal rate of muscle glycogen restoration occurs with glucose or sucrose consumption. Hypokalemic periodic paralysis is a rare complication of hyperthyroidism commonly observed in Asian and Hispanic populations. It presents as recurrent proximal muscle flaccidity ranging from mild weakness to total paralysis.
