Example of coating

Because of the many variables which can influence the corrosion reaction, the use of the e.m.f. series of metals to predict the behaviour of galvanic couples in a given service environment can be hazardous and misleading. Numerous examples of coatings expected to act cathodically which have, in fact, been anodic have been reported in the literature and specialised lists of galvanic couples in different environments have been compiled. ... 

A similar design with a second block as anode, for example, of coated titanium or graphite, can be used as divided cell with a flexible diaphragm or an ion-exchange membrane. 

When polymers are used as constituents of coatings, paints, and lacquers, they require solvents as dispersing agents. Whether true solutions are formed or emulsions, the solvents used have to conform to environmental specifications, but should be sufficiently volatile so as to permit rapid drying of the applied polymer and pigment, if present. One should examine chapter 6 and the appendix for green examples of coatings solvents. 

Al Li alloys and mixts were used. All of these metals, especially Be, Al Li readily formed protective oxide coatings. When a surface of a base metal was coated with. at least one metal (such as Be or Al) whose oxide formed in admixt with that of the base metal, at least one eutectic with mp below the ignition temp of the base metal, the ig-nitability was improved, and the speed of combustion increased and proceeded to completion. One of the early examples of coating technology was for building up layers in color film. These films exemplify the use of multiple layers of coatings that are built in to the final product. In use, the camera lens also will be coated. See Fig. 7. See also Photographic Eninlsions. 

Icosahedral capsid viruses and clathrins are examples of coat proteins of which there are many. Another example that has been extensively studied is coat protein II, or COPII, which is composed of an inner cage and outer coat [5], The inner cage is a cuboctahedron approximately 60 nm across. It has square and triangular faces which can only be constructed if four protein strands emanate from the structure s hub, rather than the three seen in clathrins. It also transpires that the proteins interact with each other at the vertices without any of the extensive interdigitation seen in clathrin cages. 

To characterize the overall appearance of a coating system mainly two different techniques are used in the automotive and paint industry. The mechanical profilometry yields a detailed information of the topography so that substrate influences and other effects on the final coating appearance can be described. These methods, in the past mainly used for coated steel substrates, were demonstrated showing typical examples of coatings for plastics. The optical method (wave-scan) yielded similar results.
