Evaporators entrainment

During the formation of a spray, its properties vary with time and location. Depending on the atomizing system and operating conditions, variations can result from droplet dispersion, acceleration, deceleration, coUision, coalescence, secondary breakup, evaporation, entrainment, oxidation, and solidification. Therefore, it may be extremely difficult to identify the dominant physical processes that control the spray dynamics and configuration. [Pg.330]

Provide liquid low level alarms to prevent loss of liquid by evaporation, entrainment, leaks, or failure of the makeup liquid system. [Pg.527]

The above experimenters have used the technique described to obtain flow rate measurements of the liquid wall-film at various mass velocities, tube dimensions, etc., and some typical results from Staniforth and Stevens (S7) are shown in Fig. 7. Also shown are the values of burn-out heat flux obtained at the four different mass velocities indicated. It can be seen that the liquid-film flow rate decreases steadily with increasing heat flux until at burn-out the flow rate becomes zero or very close to zero. We thus have confirmation of a burn-out mechanism in the annular flow regime which postulates a liquid film on the heated wall diminishing under the combined effects of evaporation, entrainment, and deposition until at burn-out, the film has become so thin that it breaks up into rivulets which cause dry spots and consequent overheating. [Pg.220]

The nitric acid evaporated from the high-level waste concentrator is too dilute and contains too much entrained radioactivity to be recycled without additional treatment. This acid, together with dilute acid waste streams from the uranium and plutonium purification solvent extraction systems, is decontaminated in the nitric acid evaporator. Entrainment can be suppressed by providing partial reflux through a few bubble-plate or perforated-plate trays, backed up by wire-mesh mist eliminators. [Pg.491]

Note 7. Butyllithium in hexane can be used in principle, but the yield is lower because during the evaporation of the hexane some of the cumulenic ether is entrained. [Pg.127]

For each mol of urea produced in a total-recycle urea process, one mol of water is formed. It is usually discharged from the urea concentration and evaporation section of the plant. For example, a 1200 t/d plant discharges a minimum of 360 t/d of wastewater. With a barometric condenser in the vacuum section of the evaporation unit, the amount of wastewater is even higher. Small amounts of urea are usually found in wastewaters because of entrainment carry-over. [Pg.308]

As the water evaporates into steam and passes on to the superheater, soHd matter can concentrate in a boHer s steam dmm, particularly on the water s surface, and cause foaming and unwanted moisture carryover from the steam dmm. It is therefore necessary either continuously or intermittently to blow down the steam dmm. Blowdown refers to the controHed removal of surface water and entrained contaminants through an internal skimmer line in the steam dmm. FHtration and coagulation of raw makeup feedwater may also be used to remove coarse suspended soHds, particularly organic matter. [Pg.7]

Many organisms are exposed to some of the thermal, chemical, and physical stresses of entrainment by being mixed at the discharge with the heated water this is plume entrainment. The exact number exposed depends on the percentage of temperature decline at the discharge that is attributed to turbulent mixing rather than to radiative or evaporative cooling to the atmosphere. [Pg.473]

The vapor cloud of evaporated droplets bums like a diffusion flame in the turbulent state rather than as individual droplets. In the core of the spray, where droplets are evaporating, a rich mixture exists and soot formation occurs. Surrounding this core is a rich mixture zone where CO production is high and a flame front exists. Air entrainment completes the combustion, oxidizing CO to CO2 and burning the soot. Soot bumup releases radiant energy and controls flame emissivity. The relatively slow rate of soot burning compared with the rate of oxidation of CO and unbumed hydrocarbons leads to smoke formation. This model of a diffusion-controlled primary flame zone makes it possible to relate fuel chemistry to the behavior of fuels in combustors (7). [Pg.412]

The heating surface usually determines the evaporator cost and the vapor head the space requirements. The vapor—Hquid separator must have enough horizontal plan area to allow the bulk of the initial entrainment to settle back against the rising flow of vapor and enough height to smooth out variations ia vapor velocity and to prevent splashing directly iato the vapor outlet. Separators are usually sized on the basis of the Souders-Brown expression ... [Pg.478]
