The RSST can rapidly and safely determine the potential for runaway reactions. It also measures the temperature rates and, in the case of gassy reactions, pressure increases to allow reliable determinations of the energy and gas release rates. This information is combined with analytical tools to evaluate reactor vent size requirements. This is extremely useful when screening a large number of different chemicals and processes. [Pg.939]

A two level full factorial experimental design with three variables, F/P molar ratio, OH/P wt %, and reaction temperature was implemented to analyses the effect of variables on the synthesis reaction of PF resol resin. Based on the composition of 16 components of 10 samples, the effect of three independent variables on the chemical structure was anal3 ed by using 3 way ANOVA of SPSS. The present study provides that experimental design is a very valuable and capable tool for evaluating multiple variables in resin production. [Pg.872]

Our point of view is that the evaluation of the partition function (9.5) can be done by using any available tool, specifically including computer simulation. If that computer simulation evaluated the mechanical pressure, or if it simulated a system under conditions of specified pressure, then /C,x would have been determined at a known value of p. With temperature, composition, and volume also known, (9.2) and (9.1) permit the construction of the full thermodynamic potential. This establishes our first assertion that the potential distribution theorem provides a basis for the general theory of solutions. [Pg.327]

NFPA developed Standard 704 as a tool for identification and evaluation of potential hazards during emergency response, not for application to chemical process safety. The instability rating is a part of this standard. It was not intended to be used to measure reactivity, but rather to measure the inherent instability of a pure substance or product under conditions expected for product storage. The instability rating does not measure the tendency of a substance or compound to react with other substances or any other process-specific factors, such as operating temperature, pressure, quantity handled, chemical concentration, impurities with catalytic effects, and compatibility with other chemicals onsite. [Pg.319]

Diffuse reflectance is an excellent sampling tool for powdered or crystalline materials in the mid-IR and near-IR spectral ranges. Heated reaction chambers for diffuse reflectance allow the study of catalysis and oxidation reactions in situ, and can evaluate the effects of temperature and catalyst behavior. Scratching sample surfaces with abrasive paper and then measuring the spectra of the particles adhering to the paper allows for analysis of intractable solids. Perhaps one of the greatest additional benefits is that this system is amenable to automation. [Pg.200]
