Many academic and industrial scientists serve as advisors to various federal agency programs in materials science. For example, the evaluation board for the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory (MSEL) at NIST contains representatives from Bell Laboratories, DuPont, General Electric, Allied Signal, and numerous universities. The private sector would like to improve the interactions at the strategic policy level, but some bureaucratic handicaps must be overcome. [Pg.20]

Most of the evaluation boards of such ESR-sensitive parts are shipped out to customers with only aluminum electrolytic or tantalum capacitors at their outputs. But what really happens is that the customer happily connects the eval board (rather expectantly) into his or her system, and completely forgets there are a bunch of ceramic capacitors all over the system board (for local decoupling at different points). In effect, the switcher can lose that valuable zero in its control loop and break into oscillations (see Figure 3-5). More so if the connecting leads are short. [Pg.83]

Once, while working as an Apps engineer at this maker of high-voltage Flyback monolithic switcher ICs, I happened to express concern about the way they were selecting the input bulk capacitors for their evaluation boards. To this day, in my opinion, they are making several misleading/erroneous recommendations to their customers via their eval boards. [Pg.179]

This is the approach evaluation boards use when selecting perfumes for submission. It can, however, give perfumers only limited guidance in their creative efforts, since it consists in testing after a perfume has been completed. The empirical approach must therefore be supplemented by the semiempirical approach. Here the perfume materials are tested individually in the product base, again checking for all aspects of their performance. The assumption is that perfumes composed largely or exclusively of materials that perform well in the product base will also perform well. [Pg.145]

For the sake of this discussion, let us call the group involved at the perfumer s company the "evaluation board" and the totality of all of... [Pg.202]

Clinical trials are subject to approval by ethics committees or governmental evaluation boards. All involved test persons must be informed about the potential risks and benefits and must confirm this in writing. The ethical principals of clinical trials are internationally accepted and applied ( Declaration of Helsinki ) [5]. [Pg.346]

The picture is very confused in most foodstuffs, which are mixtures of several of these individual ingredients. In practical applications this means that - in spite of the basic knowledge of possible interactions outlined here - in flavouring industrially produced foodstuffs, almost every product must be considered individually. For this reason, it is advisable for the food technologist to involve flavour specialists (flavourists, applications technologists, evaluation board) in product development as early as possible. Of course, an essential prerequisite is collaboration between flavour specialists and product developers from the food industry based on mutual trust and confidence. This can... [Pg.462]

We ask — is it really a good idea to place a small inductor (e.g. a bead or small toroid with a few turns) somewhere in the earth connection Suppose we place it on the wire connecting the ac inlet to the enclosure (or PCB to inlet). This is then called a ground choke or earth choke. It is commonly found on low-power evaluation boards (from vendors promoting their clever IC solutions), but rarely seen on a commercial power supply. [Pg.385]
