The degree of this dearness will depend, among other factors, on the outstanding amount of the bond, the open interest of the future, bond market volatility, and that bond s supply dynamics. As discussed next, the Eurex victory in the Eurozone battle of the futures has made the German deliverable (and CTD) bonds trade richer than the other German and Euro bonds in their respective maturities. [Pg.162]

Contract sizes are very similar being 100,000 in Eurex and 100,000 in the States. [Pg.164]

There is some trading in other Euro countries futures (France, Spain, etc.) but the amounts traded in them are very small in relative terms to the Eurex, and they remain due to some market makers commitment to continue giving liquidity to these products. [Pg.166]

And so the Jumbo Pfandbrief contract had failed at its first major hurdle, and on 1 March 1999 Eurex suspended trading in both the Deutschmark- and euro-denominated contracts. It did however indicate at the time, that the door remained open for a possible relaunch of the contract at a future date. [Pg.216]

Of course, these contracts have evolved to reflect new political and economic regimes. Today the Bund has become the Euro-Bund, denominated in euros, and traded on Eurex and LIFFE CONNECT platform. The UK gilt has been decimalised and the open outcry system of trading has been replaced by LIFFE CONNECT. While the Italian bond, now also quoted in euros, is traded solely on the Italian Exchange. [Pg.498]

When the German derivatives exchange finally opened its title was the Deutsche Terminborse (DTB) and has more recently become Eurex-Deutschland. [Pg.498]

Probably the most popular euro-denominated contracts available on European bonds are those offered by Eurex Deutschland and, in particular, those on longer-dated bonds issued by the German Federal Government the Buxl, Bnnd, and Bobl. Also popular but at the shorter end of the maturity spectrum are short-term notes issued by either the Federal Government or the Treuhandanstalt the Euro-Schatz notes. [Pg.506]

As an alternative to Eurex s 10-year Euro-Bund future, Euronext LIFFE offers a similar contract again based on a nominal 100,000 contract size, tick value of 10, and the same expiry cycle. The Euro-Schatz counterpart, however, offers a contract size of 200,000. The smallest allowable price movement is one half of a basis point and hence the value of a tick remains at 10. [Pg.507]

The action undertaken by the portfolio manager is then as follows. Assume that the cash market bond held in the portfolio is deliverable into a futures contract and is a natural candidate for hedging using the Euro-Bund futures contract on Eurex-Deutschland. The contract specification appears in Exhibit 16.6. [Pg.511]
