Estimated oxygen saturation

The temperature limits for growth have not been reported, although the optimal temperature has been estimated at 24 to 26° C. The relative abundance of the different groups of secondary metabolite depends on O2 concentration, pH, and osmotic tension. For example, the mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (Figure 9.3a) is synthesized under low oxygen tension (Miller and Blackwell, 1986). However, optimal production for zearalenone (Figure 9.3b) requires oxygen saturation (Hidy et al., 1977). [Pg.223]

The transient absorption formed from laser flash photolysis of 15 was not quenched in oxygen-saturated solutions, presumably because the photoenolization to form 16 takes place from a singlet excited state of 15. Furthermore, Schworer and Wirz did not observe any transient absorption that can be attributed to the formation of the triplet excited state of 15 from direct irradiation. In contrast. Hurley and Testa used energy transfer to estimate that the triplet excited state of 15 is formed in 67% yield, whereas Takezaki et al. have measured the yields for forming the triplet excited state of 15 to be slightly higher or above 80%. They estimated the lifetime of the lowest triplet excited state of 15 to be 350 ps in ethanol. [Pg.47]

A half-life of 16.9 days was reported for photolysis of benzene dissolved in oxygen-saturated deionized water and exposed to sunlight (Hustert et al. 1981). For reaction with hydroxyl radicals, an estimated half-life of 0.71 years has been calculated, which is much slower than the same reaction in air (Anbar and Neta 1967). [Pg.296]

Consideration of the reactions outlined in Scheme 2 permits an estimate of AGjt for XA to be obtained. With the knowledge that triplet carbenes react irreversibly with Oj with a rate constant close to the diffusion limit can be expressed as the quotient shown in (24) where is the rate constant for reaction of XA in oxygen saturated solution, and is the rate constant in the absence of Oj. Since no significant difference in these rate constants can be detected, the estimate of is a limit set in part by the experimental uncertainty in k (Table 8). This value, 1 x 10" ... [Pg.340]

However, these data have been generated at a time, when accurate methods to estimate oxygen in alkali metals have not been available. In a very recent study, oxygen saturation concentrations in the temperature range 70 to 200 °C have been measured in purified potassium applying the distillation method The results best fit Eq. (3). [Pg.132]

The most common sensor is the activity sensor, which uses any of a variety of technologies (e.g., piezoelectric crystals and accelerometers) to detect body movement. Systems using a transthoracic-impedance sensor to estimate pulmonary minute ventilation or cardiac contractility are also commercially available. Numerous other sensors (e.g., stroke volume, blood temperature or pH, oxygen saturation, and right ventricular pressure) have been researched or market-released at various times. Some systems are dual-sensor, combining the best features of each sensor in a single pacing system. [Pg.194]

Equation 8.76 allows us to estimate the effectiveness of bubble aeration (i.e., oxygen saturation in water) and degassing of water depending upon the airflow, the distance of air babbles passing... [Pg.514]

Collapse of the human pharyngeal airway during sleep affects 2-4% of adults (1) with an estimated 10% of snorers being at risk to obstructive sleep apnea (2). These episodes of partial or full cessation of breathing per hour influence the quality of sleep, reduce brain oxygen saturation and have been linked to hypertension and heart failures (2). [Pg.467]

The value of the saturation concentration,, is the spatial average of the value determined from a clean water performance test and is not corrected for gas-side oxygen depletion therefore K ji is an apparent value because it is determined on the basis of an uncorrected. A tme volumetric mass transfer coefficient can be evaluated by correcting for the gas-side oxygen depletion. However, for design purposes, can be estimated from the surface saturation concentration and effective saturation depth by... [Pg.342]

Calculation of group increments for oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen compounds has allowed the estimation of conventional ring-strain energies (CRSE) for saturated heterocycles from enthalpies of formation. For 1,3-dioxolane, CRSE is about 20 kJ mol . In 2,4-dialkyl-l,3-dioxolanes the cis form is always thermodynamically the more stable by approximately 1 kJ mol" . [Pg.32]
