ESTIMATE OF THE POTENTIAL MARKET IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

The potential market for SMPRs depends on a number of factors which would make SMPRs attractive and usable. The following are essential  [Pg.55]

They would have to be economically competitive with alternative generating plants, in particular coal-fired plants, in a qualified project evaluation (cf. Section 4.3.1) based on present and assumed conditions and costs at the site of the future power plant. (This condition would always remain necessary) and [Pg.55]

Their introduction on the grid would have to be technically feasible, i.e. as a general indication the plant capacity should not exceed 10% of the total installed capacity in the interconnected grid (although this criterion has known exceptions) which would require site-specific studies (cf. Section 4.1.2). [Pg.55]

While on some sites it may be technically feasible to introduce a bigger, and presumably more economic, unit, it may still be desirable to chose an SMPR for the following reasons (cf also Section 2)  [Pg.55]

Better financial risk management may be possible because of the smaller total financial package  [Pg.55]
