Any competence assessment should be conducted in accordance with an associated set of performance and assessment standards and criteria. Wright et al. (2003) suggested that a competence standard should provide a testable statement or description 

Direct observation. Involves observing individuals undertaking their jobs 

Specially set tasks Includes skills, tests, simulations, projects, and assignments typically used when observing normal work activities is not 

Oral questioning Can be used to supplement task performance evidence by querying respondent about performance in a difference context
