Essential Members of the Organization

The entry-level engineer or other technical person should view the other team members as essential because of their special knowledge and skills and their lower labor cost. These personnel should be brought into a project or task whenever and wherever their combination of expertise and cost per unit of production is more favorable than having the tasks performed by professionals. Even if the professional has the necessary knowledge and skills, the cost per unit of production should govern involvement [Pg.146]

Entry-level technical persons should recognize that they need the other team members as much as the other team members need them. You cannot be productive without significant assistance in various specialized areas. While entry-level technical persons might be able to do some functions, they will not be able to do them as efficiently, as measured by productivity (labor and other costs per unit of work completed) and as well as some other team members. [Pg.147]
