Escape hatches

Exit routes and doors from all facilities should be provided according to the requirements of NFPA 101. The minimum width of all exit routes should not be less than a standardized width, 1.0 meter (39 inches) being commonly adopted. Where low occupancy rooms are provided in offshore facilities near process areas, a secondary emergency escape hatch is provided as an alternative means of escape in addition to the normal means of egress. 

Examples of common safe practices are pressure relief valves, vent systems, flare stacks, snuffing steam and fire water, escape hatches in explosive areas, dikes around tanks storing hazardous materials, turbine drives as spares for electrical motors in case of power failure, and others. Safety considerations are paramount in the layout of the plant, particularly isolation of especially hazardous operations and accessibility for corrective action when necessary. 

No experiment has been done to support the notion of bubble universes, imaginary time, or the zillion anthropic universes. Indeed, it seems that no experiment could detect them in principle. Since they or their effects cannot be observed, then they are metaphysical postulates, no more accessible to experimental investigation than an admittedly supernatural being. They do science no good. Their only use is as an escape hatch from the supernatural. 

Every culture has some kind of escape hatch, some ersatz respite from the overburdening realities of everyday existence. For over a thousand years, hashish has been this escape hatch for a large segment of Arab society.
