Tay et al. (1974, 1979) have studied the mechanism of erosion of the dental silicate cement in service, finding that grooving occurs at the margin between the restoration and the tooth. Erosion exposes the cavity and provides sites for the accumulation of food debris and bacteria which can cause inflammation of the gingiva (Larato, 1971). It also leads to staining of the restoration (Bock, 1971 Kent, Lewis Wilson, 1973).

On passive margins, seep flows are caused by (1) the escape of petroleum and natural gas driven by salt tectonics (Figure 19.21b), (2) artesian flows, (3) catastrophic erosion of sediments, and (4) submarine slides. 

The erosion of conditional releasees liberty makes us aUless free. Privacy erodes first at the margins, but once eliminated, its protections are lost for good, and the resultant damage is rarely, if ever, undone.. .. [168]. ... 

Unlike erosion, caries damage is localised to areas where plaque most readily accumulates, i.e. between the teeth, at the gum margins and in fissures and irregularities on the tooth surfaces. 

ADI exceedences are very rare indeed. In fact annual surveillance reports or total diet surveys from the USA, EU, New Zealand and Norway over the past two years have not reported a single ADI exceedance. The UK, however, had problems with lindane in milk (MAFF, 1996a) and chlormequat in pears (MAFF, 1999) in both cases the ADI was very closely approached and ministers took both cases very seriously indeed. In fact, the UK officials coined an interesting euphemism to describe this situation erosion of safety margins . 

Co-deposition of tritium with carbon is potentially the major T repository for ITER even if the use of carbon is minimized to the divertor strike plates. Retention by other mechanisms is expected to be low and to contribute only marginally to the in-vessel tritium-uptake (Sect. 12.4). For this reason the focus here is on some recent experimental findings associated with ( ) carbon erosion and deposition patterns in existing tokamaks, ( ) hydrocarbon film formation in areas of the divertor hidden from the plasma, and (in) mixed-material effects.
