Epoxy resins optical properties

Refractive index is defined as the ratio of the speed of light of a given wavelength in vacuum to the speed of light at the same wavelength in the substance measured. The refractive index of epoxy resins is seldom reported. However, the property is important for cured epoxy adhesives that are used in the assembly of optical devices. [Pg.442]

OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF RIGID PVC/ MONTMORILLONITE NANOCOMPOSITES WITH EPOXY RESIN AS COMPATIBILIZER... [Pg.65]

Polyvinyl chloride/montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared using an epoxy resin, as compatibiliser, and the effect of this compatibiliser on the optical properties of the nanocomposites investigated. It was found that the transparency of the nanocomposites improved with increasing content of montmorillonite, which was pretreated with the epoxy resin. The good transparency of the nanocomposites also indicated that the epoxy resin improved the processing stability of the nanocomposites. 3 refs. [Pg.65]

Study of the morphological features of EEC indicate precipitation in the course of the epoxy resin cm"e of particles of the discrete phase of the rubber, the dispersion of which in the epoxy polymer matrix has a considerable effect on the mechanical properties of the latter. If the rubber particles are large enough, they can be detected by optical microscopy, but the most important results are obtained by electron microscopy. [Pg.134]

In recent years, epoxy resins have been nsed to realize optical disk matrices, lenses and prisms. However, the refractive index of conventional epoxy resins is low and their applications as optical materials where a high refractive index is reqnired are limited. For this reason, many efforts are being dedicated to synthesizing new optical epoxy resins characterized by a high refractive index, good mechanical properties and optimal thermal insulation. [Pg.105]
