The shear strength of the epoxy-episulfide resin system ranges from 6,400 psl to 7,500 psl, comparable to 6,500 psi for Zimmer and 6,230 psl for Simplex acrylic cements. [Pg.166]

The high room temperature curing rate of the epoxy-episulfide resin system Is not only comparable to that of acrylic cement, but also controllable by changing the amounts of the ingredients DEPPE and Versamid 140. [Pg.168]

Our approach has been to synthesize the dleplsulflde resin corresponding to the normal blsphenol A type dlepoxlde resins. A polyamide type curing agent (Versamlde 140) was used because of our particular Interest In orthopedic adhesives, l.e. "bone cement". Some of the properties were therefore tailored to be optimum near body temperature. We have found very little prior literature on dleplsulflde resins. As prepared, the dleplsulflde resin analog of DGEBA Is a crystalline solid which must be heated above Its melting temperature for reaction. Charlesworth (2) has reported mechanical relaxation behavior of epoxy-episulfide poly-... [Pg.153]

Water absorption decreases as the amount of DEPPE in the mixture Increases, as shown in Figure 5. Mote that the data are for equilibrium water absorption in saline solution not at room temperature, but at 37°C. It seems reasonable that the product formed in the epoxy-episulfide system, which Involves many —S— linkages. Is less polar than the product from a standard epoxy resin system containing many hydroxyl groups after reaction. [Pg.160]

Specific examples of comonomers include imides, perylenediimide, urethane-ureas, - epoxies, " other siloxanes, ° amides, " styrene, divinylbenzene, acrylics, - silsesquioxanes, polythiophenes, and poly(lactic acid). One novel combination is the preparation of polysiloxane-based episulfide resins. An unusual application is the use of monomethyl-itaconate-grafted polymethylsiloxane to induce crystal growth of CaCOg. Polysiloxanes containing thermally curable brenzoxazine moieties in the main chain are also in the category. ... [Pg.203]

Organic phosphorus compounds are also produced in the interaction of wliite phosphorus with an epoxide or an episulfide and an alcohol or mercaptane in the presence of alkaline catalysts at 25 °C to 200 °C In order to remove P-H bonds the reaction mixture is treated witli formaldehyde and oxidized. The products are said to be useful as hardeners for epoxy resins or as antistatic agents and fire retardants. [Pg.29]
