Virtually all beta-lactam antibiotics can cause eosinophilia, either isolated or in the context of very different reactions. [Pg.482]

Acute renal insufficiency, with or without skin rash and eosinophilia, has been reported with various beta-lactam antibiotics, most often with methicUhn. Hence, the designation methicUhn-nephritis is stiU sometimes used. The pathogenesis is largely unknown and is different from the... [Pg.485]

The underlying mechanism of a series of clinical entities associated with beta-lactams, such as maculopapular rash, drug fever, eosinophilia, serum sickness-like disease, vesicular and bullous skin reactions, erythema nodosum, and acute interstitial nephritis, is suspected to be immunological but is still largely unknown. [Pg.486]

Various antibiotics, in particular sulfonamides, beta-lactam compounds, tetracycline and ethambutol, may induce pulmonary toxicities, which usually consist of pulmonary infiltrates with eosinophilia. Dmg-induced lupus states have also been reported with minocychne and tetracycline, nalidixic acid, sulfonamides, and nitrofurantoin (1). [Pg.818]
