Encapsulated Nano-Sized Particles, also Called Overbased Reverse Micelles

3 Encapsulated Nano-Sized Particles, also Called Overbased Reverse Micelles  [Pg.155]

In this case the so-called reverse micelles are static assemblies. The chemical processes [19, 20] lead to a mineral core mainly consisting of amorphous understoichiometric carbonate or borate surrounded by the amphiphilic molecules chemically bonded to the mineral core. [Pg.155]

After 24 hours of extraction, the solvent in the boiler is brown due to the presence of mineral oil and high molecular weight hydrocarbons generated during the synthesis of the OMeABS. Inside the latex socket, the dispersion of nano-sized particles is clear. After evaporation of petroleum ether a white powder is obtained corresponding to the purified particles. These particles are easily re-dispersed in hydrocarbons. [Pg.156]

This experiment demonstrates the static state of the OMeABS, commonly called overbased micelles . Effectively in the case of true dynamic micelles in equilibrium with single molecules, the continuous extraction with pure solvent would have completely extracted the molecules and the rebuild micelles would then be present in the boiler. [Pg.156]

EXAFS results on the various OCABS dispersions point out the amorphous stracture of the mineral calcium-rich part of the particles. The complementary TOf SIMS analyses [36] clearly established the presence of the understoichiometric calcium carbonate amorphous phase stabilized by residual calcium hydroxide. [Pg.157]
