Research going back several decades found that first-line supervisors had the most impact on the effectiveness of employee involvement programs, and (paradoxically) were most likely to be left out of the planning and implementation of such programs. [Pg.22]

Habeck, Hunt, and VanTol (1998), Habeck et al. (1998), Hunt and Habeck (1993), and Hunt et al. This research is the first serious analysis of how management safety culture affects injury claims. In addition to collecting survey information for the 220 firms, Hunt et al. (1993) held extensive interviews with 32 of the 220 firms and find a qualitative difference in those firms that engage in what the researchers call a participative culture. Big School is a medium-sized public xmiversity in the United States. While we engaged in other interventions, the data we analyzed in this book came from an Internet-based survey. It was sent to most of Big School s employees and all respondents shared their answers in English. Similar to Big Store, we used a purely appreciative focus.
