Elixir-Gold

Uses of the Reverted Elixir. The third part of the Scripture of the Golden Liquor concerns the uses of the Reverted Elixir. Placed on fire, it will form the Elixir-Gold (or Cinnabar Gold, danjin). This can be used for smearing the blades of swords that keep the other weapons ten thousand miles away (a phrase that also appears in the Nine Elixirs) or for casting dishes and cups. Those who eat and drink from these vessels can live as long as Heaven and Earth, for these vessels, like the fangzhu mirrors, absorb the essences of the sun and the moon. ... [Pg.117]

In his summary, Ge Hong mentions the transmutation into Elixir-Gold... [Pg.117]

If you cast plates and bowls with the Elixir-Gold, and take food and drinks from them, you will live a long life free from death, and will be coeternal with Heaven and Earth. [7a] By collecting [the essences of] the Sun and the Moon with these plates, you obtain a Nectar of Divine Radiance (shenguang li). Men and women should take their food from different vessels, and they will immediately rise to heaven. [Pg.191]

In the earlier part of the sixteenth century Paracelsus gave a new direction to alchemy by declaring that its true object was not the making of gold but the preparation of medicines. This union of chemistry with medieine was one characteristic goal of iatrochemists, of whom he was the predeeessor. The search for the elixir of life had usually... [Pg.25]

This is an interesting piece by Robert Boyle in the form of allegorical discourse about the possibility of alchemical transmutation. It was first published under the title Of a Degradation of Gold made by an anti-elixir a strange chymical narrative. London, 1678. This book is now extremely rare. The text below was transcribed for me by Justin von Bujdoss from the second edition, issued in London in 1739"... [Pg.47]

Unfortunately, most early alchemists are unknown, considering that they were very secretive about their methods and left little in the way of written history. Their goals were mystical, economic, secret, unpublished, and unshared. Alchemic practices were also related to medicine as well as rehgion during some periods of time and in some countries. The alchemists main search was for the philosopher s stone that could unlock the secrets of transmutation—that is, the secrets of how to transform base metals and chemicals into different, more useful and valuable products, such as gold and silver. This also led to the futile search over many centuries for the elixir vitae that would be both the universal cure for all illnesses and the way to achieve immortality. [Pg.4]

It is in Arabic alchemy that two concepts that were to become central to European alchemy are encountered for the first time the Philosopher s Stone and the elixir of life. The Philosopher s Stone was a substance reputedly able to transform base metals into gold. In spite of the name, it wasn t thought of as a stone and was often... [Pg.6]
