Elevens Constants. The empirical parameters in an equation advanced by Elevens for predicting the critical micelle concentrations (cmc) of surfactants in terms of the number of carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon chain. Elevens constants for numerous surfactants are tabulated in references [17, IS]. 

Table 3 shows the atmospheric lifetime for eleven PAH with respect to gas-phase reaction with OH and NO3 radicals, O3 and N2O5. This was calculated from the estimated and calculated rate constants. It is evident that most of the nitroarenes formed under ambient atmospheric conditions were produced by reaction of PAH with OH. The PAH reaction with NO3 radical was also considered as an important step because it resulted in the formation of nitroarenes from the N2O5 reaction with gas-phase PAH. 

One of the most characteristic types of ground-state reaction for alkenes is electrophilic addition, often involving a proton acid as addend or catalyst. In the excited state similar reactions can occur, with water, alcohols or carboxylic acids as commonly encountered addends. However, there is a variety of photochemical mechanisms according to the conditions or substrate used. In a few instances it is proposed that the electronically excited state is attacked directly by a proton from aqueous acid, for example when styrenes are converted to l-arylethanols (2.47 the rate constant for such attack is estimated to be eleven to fourteen orders of magnitude greater than that for attack on the ground state, and the orientation of addition is that expected on the basis of relativecarbonium ion stabilities (Markowni-kov addition).

Now, all the predicted sixteen stereoisomers of racemic pseudo-sugars have been synthesized and their physical constants are listed in Table 1.
