Elevated serum triglyceride

Patients with extremely elevated serum triglycerides (greater than 1,000 mg/dL [11.3 mmol/L]) can develop pancreatitis and tuberoeruptive xanthomas. 

Pravastatin is indicated as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, elevated serum triglyceride levels and primary dysbetalipoproteinemia who do not respond adequately to diet. 

Patients with NASH/NAFLD frequently have elevated serum triglycerides. In two small studies treatment has been shown to improve serum cholesterol and reduce transaminases, although the value of such treatment needs to be further investigated [11, 12].
