Electrolyte gravimetric analysis

In the common method of electro-gravimetric analysis, a potential slightly in excess of the decomposition potential of the electrolyte under investigation is applied, and the electrolysis allowed to proceed without further attention, except perhaps occasionally to increase the applied potential to keep the current at approximately the same value. This procedure, termed constant-current electrolysis, is (as explained in Section 12.4) of limited value for the separation of mixtures of metallic ions. The separation of the components of a mixture where the decomposition potentials are not widely separated may be effected by the application of controlled cathode potential electrolysis. An auxiliary standard electrode (which may be a saturated calomel electrode with the tip of the salt bridge very close to the cathode or working electrode) is inserted in the... [Pg.509]

Actual electrolyte compositions were measured b gravimetric analysis of total sulfur species present after oxidation with hydrogen peroxide. A sample of membrane material was weighed and then dissolved in water. The insoluble matrix materials were filtered and the filtrate treated with excess hydrogen peroxide which oxidizes all sulfur species to sulfate. It was assumed t t oidy sulfur in the form of sulfide was present in the membrane under run conditions. This solution was then acidified with hydrochloric acid to decompose the carbonate to carbon dioxide and water. The solution was then boiled to de-gas the mixture... [Pg.542]

Exner was very keen on seeing electrolytic methods replace traditional volumetric and gravimetric methods of analysis in industry and believed that the rotating anode would be a breakthrough in industrial analytical practice. In his doctoral dissertation, he stressed the importance of analytical speed for industry, speed that could be best obtained through electroanalysis. [Pg.460]

In his retirement. Sand wrote "Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Analysis." This appeared in three slender volumes during the War years (Tl) Voliame II, which carries the subtitle "Gravimetric Electrolytic Analysis and Electrolytic Marsh Tests," surveys apparatus and experimental techniques and gives concise instructions for the performance of numerous analyses. It acknowledges Sand s earlier contribution to L inge and Keane s encyclopedic work (72). [Pg.473]

A pol5uner lithium-ion battery has been assembled using LiNio.sMni 5O4 as the positive electrode, a Sn-C composite as the negative electrode, and a gel polymer electrolyte of 1M LiPFg solution in EC/PC (1 1) and PVDR The thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA)-differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis shows that there is no decomposition of the electrodes or the electrolyte at 200°C, which illustrates the excellent safety performance of this assembled battery. [Pg.432]
