Electrochromic devices polymer matrix

Tetrathiafulvalene (TTE) has also been used in electrochromic devices. TTE-based polymers spin-coated onto transparent electrode surfaces form stable thin films with reproducible electrochromic properties (100). The slow response of these devices has been attributed to the rate of ion movement through the polymer matrix. 

In addition to possible roles as the active electrochromic material, it should be recognized that polymers may also be used in electrochromic devices as electrolyte solution thickeners, as plasticizers, as the matrix or solid phase of gels, as solid polymer electrolytes, and even as sealants to insulate a glass imit configuration... 

Several devices incorporating P(ANi) as a dispersion in a polymer matrix have been described [908]. Several reflectance-mode devices incorporating CPs have also been described, some even including such environmentally unstable CPs as poly (acetylene) and reductively coloring ones such as poly(isothianaphthene) [909-911]. Nissan Motor Co. and several other manufacturers have described electrochromic devices capable of being incorporated into automobiles in rear view mirrors, displays, or windshields [912].

A polymer electrolyte is also referred to as a solid solvent that possesses ion transport properties similar to that of the common liquid ionic solution. It usually comprises a polymer matrix and electrolyte, wherein the electrolyte such as a lithium salt dissolves in a polymer matrix. The research and development of polymer electrolytes have drawn great attention in the last three decades as they are applied in many electrochemical devices such as hthium batteries, nickel - metal hydride (Ni/MH) batteries, fuel cells/direct methanol fuel cells, supercapadtors, electrochromic devices and the like (Gray, 1991 Stephan, 2006).
