The 211 control rods were moved in and out of the core by winches driven by electric motors. Power and neutron flux distribution were measured by in-core self-powered ion chambers, which were inaccurate at lower power. At low power, ion chambers in the graphite reflector were used.

These assemblies are fitted with switching devices (breakers, switches, fuse switches and contactors etc.) and control and measuring instruments, indicating, regtilating and protective devices etc. to transform the assemblies into composite units, called control centres to perform a number of functions in the field of distribution and control of electrical power. First of all, it is necessary to recognize that this new scenario of interconnected and broadly distributed infrastructures is characterized by the entanglement of policy, socio-economic, and technical factors. As an example we can refer to the measures taken in many countries for the liberalization of energy markets, which have significantly contributed to the fragility of the electric power provision as generation and distribution companies are forced to operate closer to their technical limits for the sake of securing the short-term profitability. 

TMS deposition rate profiles in DC, 40-kHz, and 13.56-MHz discharges are shown for electrode in Figure 13.2. It can be seen that, regardless of the frequency of electrical power source used, a uniform deposition of TMS polymers was observed in the three plasma processes, although an appreciable edge effect occurred in the DC and a less pronounced effect occurred in the 40-kHz discharge when the substrate was used as the cathode or powered electrode. The uniform distribution of deposition rates justifies the use of single measurement at the center of the electrode to represent the characteristic deposition rate of a system.
