An outline of the main applications of the SHR theory is presented in this section. In 6.1 the advantage of using the eigen-vectors the 1-SRH as a basis in Cl calculations is discussed. The main application until now of this theory is summarized in the following subsection. Then in 6.3 other applications which have been less developed are mentioned. [Pg.61]

It should be noted that this relation is formally identical to the spectral resolution of the 2 - RDM. That is, in this model, all happens as if the eigen-vectors of the 2-SRH were natural geminals. [Pg.63]

This approximation was denoted initially by the acronym IQG [34] and later on by IP (Independent Pairs) [35]. It gave satisfactory results in the study of the Beryllium atom and of its isoelectronic series as well as in the BeH system. The drawback of this approximation is that when the eigen-vectors are diffuse, i.e. there is more than one dominant two electron configuration per eigen-vector, the determination of the corresponding nj is ambiguous. In order to avoid this problem the MPS approximation, which does not have this drawback, was proposed. [Pg.63]

The solutions for the loading vectors pj and qj are found by solving two eigen vector/eigenvalue problems. Let Sx= cov(X), SY= cov(Y), and SXY= cov(X, Y) be the sample covariance matrices of X and Y, and the sample covariance matrix between X and Y (a matrix mx x mY containing the covariances between all x- and all y-variables), respectively. Also other covariance measures could be considered, see Section 2.3.2. Then the solutions are (Johnson and Wichem 2002)... [Pg.178]

On the other hand, factor analysis involves other manipulations of the eigen vectors and aims to gain insight into the structure of a multidimensional data set. The use of this technique was first proposed in biological structure-activity relationship (i. e., SAR) and illustrated with an analysis of the activities of 21 di-phenylaminopropanol derivatives in 11 biological tests [116-119, 289]. This method has been more commonly used to determine the intrinsic dimensionality of certain experimentally determined chemical properties which are the number of fundamental factors required to account for the variance. One of the best FA techniques is the Q-mode, which is based on grouping a multivariate data set based on the data structure defined by the similarity between samples [1, 313-316]. It is devoted exclusively to the interpretation of the inter-object relationships in a data set, rather than to the inter-variable (or covariance) relationships explored with R-mode factor analysis. The measure of similarity used is the cosine theta matrix, i. e., the matrix whose elements are the cosine of the angles between all sample pairs [1,313-316]. [Pg.269]

Actually, the V matrix consists of the eigen vectors" of the 4 matrix. The interested reader is referred to the texts mentioned in Sec. 15.1 for details. For our purposes, we need only to accept the notion that such a matrix of constants can be found that will convert the nondiagonal A into the diagonal... [Pg.544]

The value of e is a measure of the anisotropy of p (r) at p. A direction has been assigned to e, namely the direction of the soft curvature given by the eigen vector associated with a,. This direction is called the major axis of 280. It is normally indicated by a double-headed arrow. [Pg.376]

A principal component analysis was applied to the data of the chemical components and the amount of precipitation at eleven sampling stations to know the characteristics of stations. The eigen vectors for the first and second components are summarized in Tables 3 and 4. The first components were characterized by sodium, magnesium, strontium, chloride, and sulfate ions which means that the major chemical depositions are similar throughout Japan, even though the seasonal variation differed for the stations on the Japan Sea side and the Pacific side. [Pg.266]
