Education/training undergraduate

The present book brings to the reader a state-of-the-art treatment of high-pressure shock compression of solids in a type of tutorial manner. It has been felt by the shock physics and engineering communities that there is a need for such a book to aid the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students of physics and engineering. We hope that the present book will partially fill that vacuum. We certainly welcome any comment or criticism on the content of this book, in the hope that these will be incorporated into later editions of the book. 

The book is also useful for undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical engineering. Some faults of the old book have been ehminated. One fault was its level of difficulty. It was too hard for undergraduates at most U.S. universities. The new book is better. Known rough spots have been smoothed, and it is easier to skip advanced material without loss of continuity. However, the new book remains terse and somewhat more advanced in its level of treatment than is the current U.S. standard. Its goal as a text is not to train students in the application of existing solutions but to educate them for the solution of new problems. Thus, the reader should be prepared to work out the details of some examples rather than expect a complete solution. 

Probably the most significant single event in polymer education occurrred in 1978. The latest edition of "Undergraduate Professional Education in Chemistry Criteria and Evaluation Procedures" by the ACS Committee on Professional Training contains "In view of the current importance of inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, and polymer chemistry, advanced courses in these areas... 

It is evident from the foregoing that the study of multiphase reactions requires a set of skills additional to those provided in the undergraduate education and training of most chemists and chemical engineers. The new concepts required are easy to grasp, as is their application to chemical process development in the laboratory, but the more sophisticated... 

Workshop speakers and participants indicated ways to improve education and training in the area of bioinspired chemistry for energy, including K-12, undergraduate and graduate education, postdoctoral training, and workforce training. 

Dr, Ronald J. Willey of Northeastern University in Boston prepared an excellent 35miT slide training package entitled Seminar on Tank Failures. Professor Willey developed this instructional lecture material under the direction and guidance of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Undergraduate Education Committee of the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS). ... 

The fundamental components of the Standard are the statement of objectives of clinical pharmacy and the documentation of procedures for selected clinical activities. In addition, the issues of boundaries of clinical practice, training, and education are addressed. These guidelines have been utilized in policy development at local and federal government levels, in the accreditation of clinical pharmacy services, and as a key standard for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
