Education/training faculty needs

Educators need to become both more familiar with and more comfortable teaching green chemistry concepts, and professional development is an effective means to do so. By the early 1970s, debates over pharmacy manpower, pharmacists roles, and pharmacy education were heightened. In 1972, AACP President Arthur Schwarting recommended the formation of a Commission on Pharmacy to study the scope of pharmacy services in health care and to project the educational requirements needed to train pharmacists to provide these services. The commission was chaired by John S. Millis, President of the National Fund for Medical Education. The Millis Commission s report, Pharmacists for the Future, was published in 1975. The report contained 14 recommendations for pharmacy practice and education. Among these were continued movement of pharmacy as a knowledge-based clinical profession, increased development of clinical practice sites for pharmacy school faculty, and development of a national board licensing exam for pharmacists. [Pg.277]

The university as a whole has to plan and realize the co-operation between different disciplines represented by faculties and departments. Other functions are to provide an adequate infrastructure and the administration in the university. On the second level the functions of faculties and departments are the planning and controlling of programs and curricula as well as the intra-disciplinary co-ordination. On the third level the institutes and chairs have to carry out research work and knowledge transfer as well as education and training. This functional division in universities result in a special need for an effective and efficient management of education and research in institutes and chairs. [Pg.196]
