Education culture change process

To design a new practice seems to be an easy act, but educational change is a process loaded with constrains and drawbacks as educational change really has to be understood as a cultural change involving new approaches and perceptions to learning, education, students and practice. The transformation to a CDIO program will affect all faculty members in the program, and it will influence the context and the organization of the education program. To succeed, faculty need to view the transformation as an instance of cultural and organizational change and to make nse of the best practices that facilitate such change processes. The first section of the chapter reviews these practices and applies them to a university context. 

Educate and involve patients and their families in the change processes under way. Healthcare facilities undergoing change and transition to a true safety culture should consider the three overlapping organizational levels impacted by change (1) enviromnental, (2) organizational, and (3) the clinical interface between clinicians and patients. 

But financial incentives alone are not enough to change the future for Cleveland Public School students a student advocate program was also implemented. There is now an advocate in every comprehensive high school and intermediate school in the district. The role of the SIE advocate is to match students needs to community resources. They work with individual students and groups to improve grades, help with college entrance processes, and plan cultural and educational experiences. 

Process changes, like a new computer system or the use of a checklist, may help a bit, but if they are not embedded in a system in which the providers ate engaged in safety efforts, educated about how to idenhfy safety hazards and fix them, and have a culture of strong communication and teamwork, progress may be painfully slow.
