Edge atoms

The (010) face covers a large area of orthorhombic M0O3 crystallites apart from the edge atoms it contains only coordinatively saturated Mo and 0, the Mo-Oi being in the... [Pg.429]

From a structural point-of-view the bulk metallic state, that is, fee lattice (with varying densities of defects such as twins and stacking faults) is generally established in gold nanoparticles of about 10 nm diameter and upwards. However, such particles still display many unusual physical properties, primarily as the result of their small size. Shrinking the size of gold particles has an important effect it increases both the relative proportion of surface atoms and of atoms of even lower coordination number, such as edge atoms [49] and these atoms in turn are relatively mobile and reactive. [Pg.325]

Edge atoms predominate in the region around dK 5, and only at still smaller diameters does the fraction of corner atoms become very large. [Pg.82]

DR. SIDERS The edge atoms on the rings of the tris-bi-pyridyl complexes that we considered are a long way out from the central metal ions. For that reason we thought that an estimate such as Hopfield s, based on a carbon-carbon overlap, would be more appropriate than one based on a metal-metal overlap. [Pg.251]
