The air-conveyance system (ductwork) should have access ports available to allow for periodic sampling of lAQ at various points in the system. These data, when retrieved, can offer accurate information on the presence of mold, mildew, bacteria, and dust, allowing building management to address a problem before any concerns are raised. 

The primary mechanism for conveying dust-laden air to a central collection point is a system of pipes or ductwork that functions as a pneumatic conveyor. This system gathers dust-laden air from various sources within the plant and conveys it to the dust-collection system. 

As in any other pneumatic-conveyor system, special attention must be given to the piping or ductwork used to convey the dust-laden air or gas. The inside surfaces must be smooth and free of protmsions that affect the flow pattern. All bends should be gradual and provide a laminar-flow path for the gas. 

A typical pneumatic-conveyor system consists of Schedule-40 pipe or ductwork, which provides the primary flow path used to transport the conveyed material. Motive power is provided by the primary driver, which can be a fan, fluidizer, or positive-displacement compressor.
