Drying rotary dryers

FIOR Process. In the FIOR process, shown in Figure 5, sized iron ore fines (0.04—12 mm) are dried in a gas-fired rotary dryer. A skip hoist dehvers the dry fines to lock hoppers for pressurizing. The fines pass through four fluidized-bed reactors in series. Reactor 1 preheats the ore to 760°C in a nonreducing atmosphere. Reactors 2, 3, and 4 reduce the ore at 690—780°C. At higher (ca 810°C) temperatures there is a tendency for the beds to defluidize as a result of sticking or hogging of the reduced material. [Pg.430]

Dryers. Drying, another type of evaporation technique, is suited for waste streams of very high soHds content. Several common types of dryers are vacuum rotary dryers, dmm dryers, tray and compartment dryers, and pneumatic conveying dryers. [Pg.162]

The principal appHcations of pneumatic conveyors are for materials that are nonsticky and readily dispersible in the gas stream as drying must be entirely constant rate. Many are employed as predryers ahead of longer residence time fluid-bed and rotary dryers in polymer drying operations. [Pg.251]

While the rotary dryer shown is commonly used for grains and minerals, this system has been successfully applied to fluid-bed diying of plastic pellets, air-hft diying of wood fibers, and spray drying of milk solids. The air may be steam-heated as shown or heated By direct combustion of fuel, provided that a representative measurement of inlet air temperature can be made. Alfalfa dehydration is carried out in a direct-fired rotary dryer. The dried product is transported pneumatically to an air cooler and then to a collecting cyclone. The collected particles are ground or pelletized and then packaged for shipment. The major atmospheric emission from the process is particulate matter, which is controlled by baghouses.
