Supercritical drying with respect to methanol is not without risk. Several years ago, the main gasket of a 3000 / autoclave in the Swedish production facility at Lund failed, and more than 1000 / hot methanol leaked into the building. The following explosion destroyed the entire facility. [Pg.315]

Because products rich in desirable NPs command a high price, it becomes economic to build storage facilities that reduce NP loss and to invest in improved packaging—look at foil wrapped tea or vacumn wrapped coffee. Freeze drying, controlled atmosphere packaging and optimum harvesting also help deliver the best NP-rich products to the consumer. [Pg.16]

In April of 1955, a facility utilizing the Recuplex solvent extraction process(2j was installed in the 234-5Z Building at Hanford. This facility provided the capability of recovering plutonium from unirradiated plutonium scrap from Hanford plutonium processing operations. By 1960, the Recuplex facility was inadequate with respect to contemplated production loads, shielding requirements, and criticality prevention safety. A project was authorized in March 1961 to provide a new facility for the adequate reclamation of plutonium from both wet and dry plutonium scrap generated from both on and offsite operations. This facility, the 236-Z Building, was completed in June 1964 and is referred to as the PRF. Details on the new plant were first published in 1967.(2)... [Pg.114]

The process of commissioning is relatively new to commercial and institutional building construction. The model for building commissioning derives from commissioning industrial facilities and naval ships. Industrial facility controls are dry-lab tested extensively before installation in the facility. After installation, equipment and controls are further extensively tested and calibrated to ensure that production starts up on schedule and continues with maximum operational reliability. [Pg.32]
