Ttie sodium ethoxide solution is convenioiitly prepared as follows. Place 46 g. of dean sodium (Section III,7, Note 7) in a 2 litre round-bottomed flask provided with a 25 cm. double surface condenser. The apparatus must be perfectly dry. Cool the flask in a bath of crushed ice. Add 800 ml. of super-dry ethyl alrohol in one operation. A vigorous reaction will ensue, but it will remain under eontool. When the initial reaction is over, remove the ice bath and allow the le ual sodium to react. If smaU quantities of sodium remain, warm the flask water bath until solution is complete. [Pg.859]

Mark wants to take me all the way home, but I say in as firm a voice as I can muster that I have things to look up in the Saint Bride Library of printing, and get him to drop me as soon as we re over Blackfriars Bridge. I walk through the neat, old alleys and steps, which are centuries-worn but corporate-clean, the prosperous bustle of the City behind me apparently wiping out the last, louche remains of Fleet Street. Without Mark at my side I don t have to feel anything for a while it can all be dry, cool professional activity. [Pg.205]

PD was designed for military use in wet environments because it can persist for several days in dry, cool, shady areas. In open terrain, PD is generally effective only as a vomiting agent. However, due to its extreme vapor density, it is highly effective in enclosed areas (particularly basements), tunnels, gullies, and caves. It is highly effective when delivered as an aerosol from an aircraft.1... [Pg.80]

Transfer a 0.5 g accurately weighed dry sample to a 500-ml Erlenmeyer flask, add 25 ml of w, 30 ml of 50% nitric acid and 2 ml of 60% perchloric acid. Stir to dissolve the sample and heat to evaporate the soln until almost dry. Cool and add 50 ml of w,... [Pg.1070]

Test the reaction of boron trifluoride ammine with water. Dissolve boron trifluoride ammine in a minimum amount of water and evaporate it in a water bath until almost dry. Cool the solution. Examine the separated crystals under a microscope. [Pg.180]
