Procedures shall be used to avoid creation of aerosols, droplets, splashing where these are unavoidable, containment shall be used. 

The water droplet splashing on a dry, flat and smooth surface has been investigated by numerical methods. At high Reynolds and Weber numbers, splashing will be observed (83,84). But at smaller values of the Reynolds and Weber numbers, spreading occurs. 

An initial estimate of the size range of secondary droplets produced by a petrol cascade impinging onto a bund floor can be made using the droplet splashing model of Bai et al. This predicts secondary droplets of diameter 130-200 microns for impingement on a dry floa and 100-180 microns diameter for a wetted floor. The total mass of splash products is very dependent on the depth of liquid on the impact surface and may even exceed the incident droplet mass in some circumstances.

All procedures involving blood or other potentially infectious materials must be performed in such a manner as to minimize spattering, generating droplets, splashing, and spraying. Mouth pipetting/suctioning of blood or other potentially infectious materials is prohibited.
