DPP-based polymers

The solubility of polymers can directly influence the solution processabUity, nanoscale morphology, and device efficiency. Polymers based on DPP and DTBT comonomers usually exhibit poor solubility in common organic solvents because of their rigid planar structure. Janssen and coworkers successfully improved the solubility of DPP-based polymers by using extended side chains (i.e. 2-hexyldecyl (HD)) on DPP and achieved a high PCE of 5.5% [80, 81]. Qin et al. reported a PCE of 6.1% for a copolymer based on carbazole and octyloxy chains-substituted DTBT [82]. The flexible side chains improve the solubility of the polymer and meanwhile help maintain a planar conformation of the polymer chain. [Pg.345]

Preparation of poly([2]-rotaxane) 118 by electropolymerization of Co(II)-comple-xed pre[2]-rotaxane 117, formed by cobalt(II)-templated threading of macrocycle 58 onto the dpp-based thread 114. Cu(I) turned out to be ineffective as template for the electropolymerization process. The Cu(I)-complexed polymer (119) was obtained by successive demetallation-remetallation processes. Figure 2.39. Stille coupling has been used by Li et al to synthesize the donor-acceptor co-polymer P23 consisting of dithienyl-DPP and fused thienothiophene (TT) units. OFET devices fabricated from this polymer showed a high hole mobility of 0.94 cm V s due to significant intermolecular %-% donor-acceptor interactions between TT and DPP fused heterocyclic units.Additionally, a stannyl derivative of dithienothiophene has been recently co-polymerized by Shahid et al. with bis(5-bromo-2-thiophenyl)- and bis(5-bromo-2-selenophe-nyl)-DPP comonomers. Both polymers exhibited ambipolar characteristics in OFET devices. The thiophene-based co-polymer analog showed a higher... [Pg.415]

Specific surface treatments of pigments for plastics applications can be done to improve properties like dispersibility, warping and crystallization behavior. The warping (distortion) of polyethylene is strongly related to the crystallization of the polymer . Through specific surface treatments, a reduction of the distorting properties of polyethylene can be achieved. DPPs have been surface treated to reduce the distortion, and commercial products based on C.I. Pigment Red 254 are now present on the market. [Pg.179]
