Double-strand organic polymers

Recommendations on additional aspects of macromolecular nomenclature such as that of regular double-strand (ladder and spiro) and irregular single-strand organic polymers continue to be pubHshed in I ure and Applied Chemistty (100,101). Recommendations on naming nonlinear polymers and polymer assembHes (networks, blends, complexes, etc) are expected to be issued in the near future. 

The rules of structure-based nomenclature of regular single-strand organic polymers are of fundamental importance in polymer nomenclature. The names of other kinds of polymers such as double-strand [7] and irregular polymers [8] are based on the principles given in this Report. 

Several metal-organic polymers assembled by dithioether ligands, which are functionalized by heteroelements such as O, N, or Si in the spacer unit, have been recently described and reacted with Cu(I) salts. For example, the 2D square-grid coordination polymer 37 incorporating the 16-membered dithiaoxa crown-ether L37 has been prepared by a self-assembly process involving the interaction of the dithiaoxa macrocycle with CuCN (Scheme 17) the parallel reaction of the dithiaoxa crown-ether with Cul afforded the ID double-stranded coordination polymer 37 . This example demonstrates, how the nature of the counterion can control the form of the network.157...

Regular Double-Strand (Ladder and Spiro) Organic Polymers... 

Structure-based and source-based nomenclature rules have been extended to regular double-strand (ladder and spiro) organic polymers [7]. A double-strand polymer is defined as a polymer the molecules of which are formed by an uninterrupted sequence of rings with adjacent rings having one atom in common (spiro polymer) or two or more atoms in common (ladder polymer). 

The structure-based nomenclature rests upon the selection of a preferred CRU [1, 12] of which the polymer is a multiple the name of the polymer is the name of this repeating unit prefixed by poly . The unit itself is named wherever possible according to the established principles of organic nomenclature [3]. For double-strand polymers, this unit usually is a tetravalent group denoting attachment to four atoms. Since some of these attachments may be double bonds, the unit may be hexavalent or octavalent. Table 6 lists some examples.
