The mechanism of the catalysis of ascorbate autoxidation by 6-OHDA, 6-ADA, DA, and other related compounds was studied in great detail (6) in double-mixer flow experiments coupled with ESR. This analysis demonstrates elearly that two-stage frequency conversion enables us to increase the seleetivity of our apparatus. It also makes it possible for us to reduce the and noise with the help of a very selective filter e.g., a ceramic filter centered at 10.7 MHz) inserted in between the two mixers. Figure 19 shows the distribution of different frequencies available in the frequency domain at the inputs and outputs of a double-mixer circuit. In order that the intervals do not overlap each other, an operating range of frequencies 500 kHz to 9 MHz has been chosen here.

Any type of sohds conveyor may be suitable for recycle mixing however, the most universally applicable is the double-shaft pug-miU-type paddle mixer. This conveyor or mixer should be insulated to prevent excessive heat losses from the hot, dry recycle product. To ensure uniformity in the recycle operation, a surge storage reserve of recycle sohds should be installed for startup purposes and in the event of interruption of product discharge from the cyhnder. In recycle operations, 50 to 60 percent product recirculation is found economical in many instances.

Top entering mixers are heavy duty equipment. They are usually fixed to a rigid structure or tank mounting. Either radial flow or axial flow turbines may be used. Speeds vary from 50 to 100 rpm and usually require a double set of helical gearing or a single set of worm gears to achieve these low speeds. Therefore, they are more expensive than single reduction mixers. 

The whole set-up for partial oxidation comprises a micro mixer for safe handling of explosive mixtures downstream (flame-arrestor effect), a micro heat exchanger for pre-heating reactant gases, the pressure vessel with the monolith reactor, a double-pipe heat exchanger for product gas cooling and a pneumatic pressure control valve to allow operation at elevated pressure [3].
