Doors pulls

Dos Caminos, on Park Avenue South at 26th Street, is a large, loud establishment behind two tall black doors with brushed-chrome D and C door pulls that look like the world s biggest Banana Republic belt buckle. 

More recent uses have been for forming dies and jigs, weaving shuttles, knife handles, glass door pulls and railroad track connectors where electrical resistance is needed for automatic signaling systems. 

Another hazard for some vehicles is catching on protmding objects during operation. For example, forklifts often carry loads into or out of tmck trailers. Some rollup doors on truck trailers have short, flat straps for pulling a door down. A short loop of flat, stiff material is not likely to catch on the frame of a forklift or its load. However, if the door pull is merely a piece of round rope, the rope may catch in a pinch point on the mast of the forklift. If there is a knot in the rope, the likelihood of catching increases. If the doorpuU catches, it can pull the trailer door onto the load or forklift operator. 

Round all leading edges which the operator may come into direct contact with whenever possible. Try to recess the external hardware like hinges, door pulls, knobs, etc., as much as possible to avoid contacting the operator. 

These are represented by classes D and A respectively in Fig. 4.4. The first category includes parts which could impact the driver in a collision, such as B pillar covers and the lower part of the instrument panel, and its adjacent trim panels. Unreinforced ABS and a variety of PP copolymers are commonly used for these components. The same tough, resilient materials are used for the components which need protection from the passengers feet (seat valances, kick plates), or from their golf clubs (boot liners). Door pulls arc also usually moulded from unmodified PP copolymers. Figure 4.7 shows a variety of interior panels in PP. 

If a cylinder containing poisonous gas is leaking, immediately leave the room, close the doors, pull the nearest fire alarm, evacuate the area, and report the emergency. The supplier should be contacted for disposal of the cylinder once the emergency situation is stabilized.
