The Dess-Martin periodinane ( DMP ) reagent, U,l-tris(acetyloxy)-l,l-dihydro-l,2-benziodoxol-3(l//)-one, has also been used in several complex syntheses for the oxidation of primary or secondary alcohols to aldehydes or ketones, respectively (e.g., M. Nakatsuka, 1990). It is prepared from 2-iodobenzoic add by oxidation with bromic add and acetylation (D.a Dess, 1983). [Pg.134]

Of these dimethyl phthalate (DMP) is used in most compositions. It is cheap, has a high compatibility with secondary cellulose acetate and is efficient in increasing flexibility, toughness and the ease of flow at a given temperature. Its principal disadvantages are its high volatility and the fact that it increases the flammability of the compound. Similar in compatibility but rather less volatile is diethyl phthalate. This material has less of an influence on flexibility and flow properties than the methyl ester. [Pg.624]

Triphenyl phosphate is a crystalline solid which has less compatibility with the polymer. This may be expected from solubility parameter data. It is often used in conjunction with dimethyl phthalate and has the added virtues of imparting flame resistance and improved water resistance. It is more permanent than DMP. Triacetin is less important now than at one time since, although it is compatible, it is also highly volatile and lowers the water resistance of the compound. Today it is essential to prepare low-cost compounds to allow cellulose acetate to compete with the synthetic polymers, and plasticisers such as ethyl phthalyl ethyl glycollate, which are superior in some respects, are now rarely used. [Pg.624]

Add to a dmp of andine in a basin a few drops of con-icntiated siilpluaic ai id, and slii with a lass lod. I hen add a few drops of potassium hichroiiiate solution. An intense blue colour is obtained. [Pg.151]

Me2P(0)Cl, Et3N, CHCI3, 76% yield. The Dmp group was used to protect tyrosine for use in peptide synthesis. It is stable to IM HCl/MeOH, 1 MHCl/AcOH, CF3CO2H, HBr/AcOH, and H2/Pd-C. [Pg.284]

Cleavage is effected with acid. The following table compares the acidolysis rates with Bn and cyclohexyl esters in TFA/phenol at 43°. The Dmp group reduces aspartimide formation during Fmoc-based peptide synthesis. [Pg.409]

The identification of both phenylethyl and 1-phenyl-1,2,3,4-lelrahydronaphthalenyl end groups in polymerizations of styrene retarded by FeCl3/DMP provides the most compelling evidence for the Mayo mechanism.316 The 1-phenyl-1.2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalenvl end group is also seen amongst other products in the TEMPO mediated polymerization of styrene,317318 However, the mechanism of formation of radicals 96 in this case involves reaction of the nitroxide with the Diels-AIder dimer (Scheme 3.63). The mechanism of nitroxide mediated polymerization is discussed further in Section 9.3.6. [Pg.108]
