Dizziness antagonists

Low affinity use-dependent NMDA recqrtor antagonists meet the criteria for safe administration into patients. Drugs like amantadine and memantine have modest effects on Parkinson s disease and are used as initial therapy or as adjunct to l-DOPA. Their adverse effects include dizziness, lethargy and sleep disturbance. 

Adverse reactions of the histamine H2 antagonists include dizziness, somnolence, headache, confusion, hallucinations, diarrhea, and impotence (that is reversible when the drug is discontinued). Adverse reactions are usually mild and transient. 

HISTAMINE H2 ANTAGONISTS. During early therapy with these drug, the patient may experience dizziness or drowsiness. The patient may require assistance with ambulation. These reactions usually must be tolerated, but the nurse reassures the patient that they will disappear after several days of therapy. 

The older adult is particularly senstive to the effects of the histamine Hs antagonists The nurse must closely monitor older adults for confusion and dizziness Dizziness increases the risk for falls in the older adult. 

If the patient is started on an a-adrenergic antagonist, monitor the patient for hypotension, dizziness, or syncope. If present, assess the severity of each symptom. Reduce the drug dose or discontinue the drug, as necessary. If the patient has malaise or rhinitis, reassure the patient that these are usual, but bothersome, adverse effect, that often improve with continued therapy. 

Monitoring for major adverse effects should be undertaken they include headache and dizziness with nitrates fatigue and lassitude with /J-blockers and peripheral edema, constipation, and dizziness with calcium channel antagonists.
