Displacement of metals

DispEcement. In many of the appHcations of chelating agents, the overall effect appears to be a displacement reaction, although the mechanism probably comprises dissociations and recombinations. The basis for many analytical titrations is the displacement of hydrogen ions by a metal, and the displacement of metal by hydrogen ions or other metal ions is a step in metal recovery processes. Some analytical pM indicators function by changing color as one chelant is displaced from its metal by another. [Pg.393]

Metal displacement in die flo-tum process differs from metal displacement in the cold rolling mill-process in that flo-tuming displaces the metal in el spiral manner as work revolves as compared to the displacement of metal in a longitudinal direction in the cold rolling process... [Pg.491]

It should be noted, however, that we do not discuss many different structural changes in crystals accompanying the low-temperature D-ordering transition (displacements of metal cations, rotations of the A04-terahedra, etc.). Therefore, our analysis is limited by specific changes in H-bond network only and does not claim on the exhaustive treatment of all crystallographic problems. [Pg.583]

CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM THE TABLES OF OXIDATION-REDUCTION POTENTIALS From the values of oxidation-reduction potentials we can easily find out whether a particular oxidation-reduction reaction is feasible or not. We have already seen the rules that govern the displacement of metals by one another, and the feasibility of dissolving metals in acid with the liberation of hydrogen. Those conclusions can now be extended and generalized. It can be said that the more positive the oxidation-reduction... [Pg.126]

There are several review articles on the preparation methods for acetylenic compounds, either bv the elimination of halogen compounds, or by the displacement of metal acetylides [2]. [Pg.646]

Interstitial mechanism (Figure 8.3A). The displacement of metal atoms takes place from one interstitial site to the other without permanently displacing the matrix atoms in the crystal cell. The distortion caused by the movement of the matrix atoms to allow the jump constitutes the energy barrier that must be surmounted. This mechanism is frequently used to describe him formation on metal alloys when metal atoms normally occupy interstitial positions. [Pg.193]

It is evident that unless what might be called a perfect fit be made, that the sudden arrest of the hammer upon the tut e or cone, as it descends by force of the mamspring. will cause some slight displacement of metal where the hammer and tumbler come in juxtaposition. A repetitioo of these sudden... [Pg.369]

Structural impairment of essential metal binding sites by displacement of metals this results in membrane changes such as depolarization and impairment of receptors or transporter molecules (Alt etal. 1990). [Pg.739]

Ipatieff used his pressure technique to the study of polymerization of olefins, hydrogenation of sugars, and displacement of metals (forerunner of hydrometallurgy). All this he accomplished with untrained assistants since there were no students specializing in chemistry at the Academy of Artillery. [Pg.25]

Contactor. Contacts showing heat damage, displacement of metal, or loss of adequate wear allowance require replacement of the contacts and, where applicable, the contact springs. If deterioration extends beyond the contacts, such as binding in the guides or evidence of insulation damage, the damaged parts of the entire contactor must be replaced. [Pg.670]
