Mechanical disaggregation

In the same experimental system of epididymal fat tissues, it has been demonstrated by immunochemical methods, as well as by kinetic methods (67) that acetyl-CoA carboxylase from epinephrine-treated tissues is cataljdically less active. It thus appears that the effects of hormones are mediated by a covalent modification mechanism rather than by a metabolite-dependent aggregation and disaggregation mechanism 64). 

Chemical pretreatments with amines, silanes, or addition of dispersants improve physical disaggregation of CNTs and help in better dispersion of the same in rubber matrices. Natural rubber (NR), ethylene-propylene-diene-methylene rubber, butyl rubber, EVA, etc. have been used as the rubber matrices so far. The resultant nanocomposites exhibit superiority in mechanical, thermal, flame retardancy, and processibility. George et al. [26] studied the effect of functionalized and unfunctionalized MWNT on various properties of high vinyl acetate (50 wt%) containing EVA-MWNT composites. Figure 4.5 displays the TEM image of functionalized nanombe-reinforced EVA nanocomposite. 

Crust formation thus is attributed to the disaggregation of the uppermost soil layer, initiated by the mechanical impact of the rain drops, and the subsequent dispersion of the clay fraction facilitated by the high ESR of the soil and by the low electrolyte content of rain water (Shainberg, 1990). Upon drying, the dispersed clay is responsible for the formation of the hard crust and decreases in infiltration rate. 

Polymer modification at the macroscopic level (either as a material subjected to mechanical processing or as a running object) consists of initiating the destructive phenomena at microdefects—that is, at submicroscopic cracks, statistically distributed on the surface or within the body of the stressed material. These cracks become centers where a detachment of intermolecular bonds occurs. This process might be called a mechanical disaggregation, the opposite of aggregation, a term that expresses (in this context) the assembly of various structural elements into polymers.

This mechanically-disaggregated gas has been usefully applied as a bridge to relating the free and bound gas (Richers et al., 1986). Simple mechanical disaggregation always liberates a considerable volume of gas which, if handled properly, has a predictably oilier composition than the associated free gas. This change in composition, created by fractionation of the lighter components, is demonstrated later in examples under case studies.
