Direct screw transfer

A typical arrangement for a direct screw-transfer injection-molding machine for thermosets is shown in Figure 2.16. The machine has two sections mounted on a common base. One section constitutes the plasticizing and injection unit, which includes the feed hopper, the heated barrel that en closes the screw, the hydraulic cylinder which pushes the screw forward to inject the plasticized material into the mold, and a motor to rotate the screw. The other section clamps and holds the mold halves together under pressure during the injection of the hot plastic melt into the mold. [Pg.175]

Direct screw transfer a moulding system used for thermosetting plastics, it is based on the injection moulding process used for thermoplastics. [Pg.63]

The largest percentage of all moulding tools for thermosetting materials, despite the use of transfer and the much more recent direct-screw-transfer system of moulding, are based on the well tried and proven compression method. This is the oldest means of moulding and modem developments retain much of the old art. [Pg.51]

Whilst mouldings of the smaller ordering quantities, especially those incorporating moulded-in inserts, are likely to be produced on semi-automatic presses, it is considered that the high quantity orders will increasingly be produced on the automatic compression press or on the relatively newer process of Direct Screw Transfer moulding. [Pg.62]

A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. A screw transfers circular motion to a straight-line movement, either in or out, depending on the direction the screw is turned (Figure 10-3). Just like the inclined plane, the slope of the screw threads affects both the force required to turn the screw and the amount the screw travels on each turn. Examine the two screws in Figure 10-4. We can install the screw in (a) quickly because the slope of the inclined is very steep. The screw in (b) takes longer to install because of the gradual slope of the inclined plane. However, we can install the screw in (b) with very accurate regulation of the force it applies. The screw can also be used as a means to install a lid to a jar, as... [Pg.218]

Spray Dryers A spray diyer consists of a large cyhndrical and usu ly vertical chamber into which material to be dried is sprayed in the form of small droplets and into which is fed a large volume of hot gas sufficient to supply the heat necessary to complete evaporation of the liquid. Heat transfer and mass transfer are accomphshed by direct contact of the hot gas with the dispersed droplets. After completion of diying, the cooled gas and solids are separated. This may be accomplished partially at the bottom of the diying chamber by classification and separation of the coarse dried particles. Fine particles are separated from the gas in external cyclones or bag collectors. When only the coarse-particle fraction is desired for fini ed product, fines may be recovered in wet scrubbers the scrubber liquid is concentrated and returned as feed to the diyer. Horizontal spray chambers are manufactured with a longitudinal screw conveyor in the bottom of the diying chamber for continuous removal of settled coarse particles. [Pg.1229]

For anaerobic bacteria, the same principles apply, except that additional attention must be directed to preparing the cell suspensions. Use of an anaerobic chamber in which cultures can be transferred to tightly capped centrifuge tubes is virtually obligatory, and addition of an anaerobic indicator should be used to ensure that subsequent entrance of oxygen does not take place inadvertently. On account of the inserts, screw-capped Oak Ridge tubes are convenient for centrifugation. [Pg.261]
