The remaining lead must be oxidized and later can be reduced from the slag using carbon. The ratio of metallic lead to lead oxide which depends in part on the type of raw materials to be processed, can be adjusted within certain limits by varying the degree of oxidation. In treating lead-rich concentrates having a lead content of approximately 70%, more than 75% of the lead can be obtained directly as metallic lead.

Our attention has been directed to modifying Sn02 electrodes and later, metal electrodes with very thin films (10-100 molecular layers) of phthalocyanines which appear to aggregate when sublimed. The oriented phthalocyanine phase or phases sensitize the response of the Sn02 electrodes with efficiencies many times greater than monomolecular layers of covalently attached chromophores or randomly oriented multilayer dye films (9). Our initial studies have been conducted with phthalocya-nines which we expected would orient in a linear "pancake-stack," by virtue of the interaction between the central metal atoms — either a covalent bond or a strong electrostatic interaction.

In summary, it has become quite clear that contact between two surfaces is limited to a small fraction of the apparent area, and, as one consequence of this, rather high local temperatures can develop during rubbing. Another consequence, discussed in more detail later, is that there are also rather high local pressures. Finally, there is direct evidence [7,8] that the two surfaces do not remain intact when sliding past each other. Microscopic examination of the track left by the slider shows gouges and irregular pits left in the softer metal... 

The possible structures for isothiazoles are discussed in Section 4.01.1, and attention in this chapter will be directed mainly towards the aromatic systems, as defined in Section 4.01.1. The saturated isothiazole 1,1-dioxides (5) are known as sultams, and bicyclic compounds of structure (6) are called isopenems. Isothiazoles readily coordinate to metals (76MI41703, 78MI41701, 79MI41700, 80MI41701). Coordination usually takes place through the nitrogen atom, but sulfur coordination can occur with soft metals such as cadmium or mercury. Some specific coordination complexes are discussed in later sections.
