Diorganotin dicarboxylates

For diorganotin dicarboxylates, the symmetrically chelated structure has been proposed from infrared and far-infrared spectra (9). A nonsymmetrically chelated configuration and a partial bridging of acetoxy groups have also been proposed based on infrared data (10, 11). 

Different synthetic routes were developed to prepare distannoxane carboxylates. Two methods commonly used are (i) the reaction of diorganotin oxides with carboxylic acids under azeotropic removal of water and (ii) the hydrolysis of diorganotin dicarboxylates. By comparison, the diorganotin dicarboxylates are monomeric in the solid state but form an octahedral structure. ° The structure is similar to that depicted for the monomeric bridged structure, except the arrangement about the tin assumes a distorted octahedral as shown in 4. The structure as been described as a tetrahedron built from two Sn-C and two short Sn-O bonds tiiat are then capped by weak bonds from the two carbonyl groups.For dimethyltin dibenzoate, the C Sn bond angle is 147° with two short Sn-O bond distances of 216 and 213 pm and two long Sn-O...
