As of this writing, it remains to be seen whether the great speed potential of MALDI and DIOS for the quantitative analysis of drug molecules will be realized in practice. There are hurdles typical of any emerging application that need to be addressed. The need for providing rapid quantitative analysis of drugs is only becoming more acute, and as such, it is likely that DI techniques will become more prevalent in the area of small molecule bioanalytical MS. 

A typical product distribution for the H/D exchange in cyclopentane over a Pt/SiC>2 catalyst, recorded at 73°C with 10.4 % conversion, is shown in Figure 2. Clearly, 3 distinct maxima are visible in the selectivity towards the DI, D5 and DIO products.

With the availability of faster computers in recent years, we are now able to handle these problems more easily. In particular, we examined the effect of chopping on D by carrying out a similar calculation in real 16. This calculation,. Dio, controls the d-d problem by real 16 arithmetic, in contrast to Di in which it was controlled by chopping. 

Di and D a have similar statistics, hence similar statistical errors generated by VEGAS. The total number of samplings Af for each integral ranges from 108 to 109. Statistical errors are of order A/"-1/2 several x 10-4. The new result Dio is...
