DMPC = dimyristoyl-phosphatidylcholine

Aqueous phase (2.7 mm3) was placed in the thin lower compartment of the microcell and the Dil dodecane solution (63 mm3) was added on top of the aqueous layer. Fluorescence of the interfacial Dil was observed in the range of 571-575 nm. The influence of two kinds of surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC), on the lateral diffusion dynamics of single molecules at the interface was investigated. DMPC was dissolved in chloroform, and the solution was mixed with pure diethyl ether at a ratio of 1 19 (chloroform diethyl ether) by volume. Pure water was placed in the lower container, and the DMPC solution was subsequently (5 mm3) spread carefully on the water. After evaporation of chloroform and diethyl ether, the Dil dodecane solution was added on the DMPC layer. Since Dil has a high... [Pg.290]

In another H-NMR study the interaction of 3-blockers with sonicated dimyristoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) liposomes in the presence of Pr has been reported [83]. The presence of Pr " increased the splitting of the choline trimethylammonium group... [Pg.204]

Fig. 1. Ultrogel AcA 54 chromatography of sARF I effect of dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) on ADP-ribosylation of Gsa and choleragen A protein. Purified sARF I was chromatographed on a column (1.2 x 104 cm) of Ultrogel AcA 54. Fractions (1 ml) were collected and samples were (A) analyzed by sodium dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and assayed for ARF activity in a reaction mixture containing Gg (0.4 jig), choleragen (25 pg), and 100 pM GTP without (B) or with (C) 1 mM DMPC. (A) SDS-PAGE of 250 pi of fraction plus bovine serum albumin, 10 pg. Lanes 1-4, fractions 68, 72, 76 and 80 Lane 5, standard proteins, phosphorylase b, bovine serum albumin, ovalbumin, carbonic anhydrase, soybean trypsin inhibitor, a-lactalbumin. (B) and (C) Autoradiograms of ADP-ribosylated proteins. Lanes 1-4, fractions 68,72,76 and 80 Lane 5, column buffer. Fig. 1. The diagnosis of an adsorbed species is to explore the effect of scan rate on the voltammetric response, which should yield a linear response for the case of Ipversus scan rate n. A practical example is shown in Fig. 2.45 where Hemoglobin (Hb)— Dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) films are immobilised upon a BPPG surface. The modified electrode was then explored with the voltammetric response evident in Fig. 2.45a, with a plot of peak current against scan rate also... [Pg.70]

The structural and dynamic properties of polymerized surfactant aggregates such as detergent micelles, vesicles and bilayers have been studied extensively (32). From a biological aspect, it is of interest to determine in which way these structures mimic the properties of natural membranes (33). Most luminescent anisotropy studies of lipid rotation have employed the fluorescence characteristics of incorporated probes (34,35), as the time scales of lipid rotation are usually in the ns regime. However, a recent electron spin study using incorporated phospholipid spin-labels (36), indicated that rotation about the long axis of dimyristoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) lipids below the phase transition occurrs with time constants of about 60-100 is. Such values lie within the time domain of phosphorescence anisotropy measurements. [Pg.364]
