Diffraction light microscopy

Vukjovic et al.199 recently proposed a simple, fast, sensitive, and low-cost procedure based on solid phase spectrophotometric (SPS) and multicomponent analysis by multiple linear regression (MA) to determine traces of heavy metals in pharmaceuticals. Other spectroscopic techniques employed for high-throughput pharmaceutical analysis include laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS),200 201 fluorescence spectroscopy,202 204 diffusive reflectance spectroscopy,205 laser-based nephelometry,206 automated polarized light microscopy,207 and laser diffraction and image analysis.208... [Pg.269]

Thermotropic liquid crystalline PPV derivatives 43 were prepared by the coupling of dihalodialkoxybenzene and divinylbenzene in the presence of a palladium catalyst, as outlined in Scheme 47 [133]. Polarized light microscopy, as a function of temperature, showed evidence of a nematically ordered structure in the material. X-ray diffraction analysis of the pristine polymers showed them to be semi-crystalline in nature, although the crystallinity of the polymer changed dramatically upon heating above 100 °C. [Pg.95]

Transmission electron microscopy is analogous to light microscopy, with visible light replaced by a beam of electrons produced by a heated metal filament, and glass lenses replaced by electromagnetic coils to focus the beam. An image of the sample is projected onto a fluorescent screen or, for a permanent record, onto film or a CCD detector (Chapter 4, Section ni.C). Alternatively, an image of the sample s diffraction pattern can be projected onto the detectors. [Pg.206]

The methods that have proved effective for quantitative determination of phases in clinkers are based on light microscopy (Section 4.2.1), X-ray diffraction (Section 4.3.2) and calculation from the bulk chemical analysis. The last two of these are applicable also to cements. SEM with image analysis (Section 4.3.1) shows promise, but other methods that have been investigated, such as IR spectroscopy, appear to have little potential. Sections 4.4.2 to 4.4.5 describe a method of calculation from the bulk analysis and Section 4.4.6 compares the results of the various methods. [Pg.113]

Ferrocene-containing liquid crystalline polymers 30 have been reported from the solution polymerization of l,T-bis(chlorocarbonyl)ferrocene, terephthaloyl chloride, and methylhydroquinone in refluxing dichloromethane [38], as indicated in Scheme 10-11. With one exception, these ferrocene containing copolyesters were reported to have birefringent melts. The presence of liquid crystallinity was verified by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized light microscopy, and X-ray diffraction studies. [Pg.508]
